Wildlife Conservation

Organizations around the world dealing with wildlife conservation

Do you love visiting wildlife parks and going on safaris? Are you a nature lover who enjoys spending your time outdoors admiring wild animals? If you answered yes to at least one of those two questions, you are one of the few who probably care enough to make a difference when it comes to wildlife conservations. More often than not, we put our hobbies and leisure activities first, and fail to realize that these activities that we are involved in could actually harm wildlife. So what is wildlife conservation?

What is wildlife conservation?

This is where people try to protect various endangered species from becoming extinct. This includes both plants and animals that have been identified as being at risk. Wildlife conservation includes protecting not only the particular species but their habitats as well. Several factors could lead to the extinction of such species. These include deforestation, overhunting and even various types of pollution. These animals and plants therefore need to be protected, and therefore a large number of government and non-government organizations have taken up this important cause.

There are several ways in which one could help conserve wildlife. Some of the best knows way s of doing so are by refraining from hunting as a form of sport or even buying the meat of wild animals such as deer. You could also help a great deal by not buying items made out of the skin of certain wild animals including their teeth and bones, to name a few.

What do wildlife organizations do?

Although different wildlife observation may have different approaches to issues at hand, their aims and objectives are primarily the same; that is to conserve wildlife, which includes marine life as well.

Some organizations deal with only certain aspect of conservation such as policy issues, caring for wild animals, educating the public and raising awareness and research, whereas others, especially major international wildlife conservation organizations, try to cover everything.

What are these organizations?

World Wildlife Fund (WWF) – This organization is one of the world top organizations when it comes to preserving wildlife. It works in several countries all over the world and uses the best scientific knowledge available to protect ecosystems and to come up with various development options with regard to preservation, efficient use of natural resources and also to deal with other environmental issues that have a great impact on the lives of endangered species. The WWF also work with governments, providing them with advice, policy alternatives, etc.

Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) – WCS deals primarily with conserving wild animals and their habitats. They have several projects dealing with conservation, in a large number of countries. They currently deal with over 300 species world over. They are also keen about areas such as climate change and the use of natural resources.

Peoples trust for endangered species (UK) – They own two important wildlife reserves and work towards supporting wildlife conservationist in different ways. They also have an outreach program that visits different cities to educate the public.

African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) – This organization deals with conservation of endangered species and landscape only in Africa. In addition to this, they work to empower and train those interested in local communities and work with governments. The animals they work with range from zebras to gorillas and elephants.

Indian Tiger Welfare Society – This organization focuses on the care and conservation of tiger and other breeds of cats, especially the white tiger. It works with local communities to come up with solution with regard to wildlife issues.
